Allies Against Racism Employee Resource Group (ERG)

In this ERG, discover ways to combat racism and build safe spaces for your friends, neighbors, and patients of color. The group is a community of learners and people who would like to grow more in their understanding of how racism impacts us all.

The purpose of this group is for all interested people to unpack privilege and internalized bias. We examine the topics of bias and stereotypes, acts of exclusion and microaggressions, privilege, history of racism, and health inequities. The curriculum is designed to connect with people who feel they are new to anti-racism and becoming anti-racist as well as people who have been doing the work for months, years, or even decades. This group provides guidance for people who are actively interested in unlearning previously held beliefs, addressing intrinsic biases and prejudices, and becoming a stronger ally for people of color.

We invite you to take on this personal challenge to walk the walk.

Why Join the Allies Against Racism ERG?

“I was able to hear stories from co-workers from all over the country. I learned how racism takes different forms in different regions and what we would do collectively to combat that.

I quickly realized that I was not the only one fumbling through our words, trying not to say the wrong thing. Beside myself I realized, it’s not about me. It’s important to practice in these meetings so when I need this information the most, I can apply it to my life.”

What Do I Need to Know?

No experience is necessary. Every person is in a different place on their journey to becoming a more inclusive, intentional, and aware human. We ask you to come to this group with grace and humility, with a willingness to learn, and be open to new ideas, news ways of thinking, and strive to lean into the discomfort that comes with authentically committing to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) work.

What Exactly Will We Be Doing?

We will meet every other week for six sessions beginning the first week of November 2022 and going through January 2023. Resources such as articles, TED talks, and videos, will be provided before each meeting. The group will run for an hour via a virtual platform with a structured format designed to promote authentic sharing and equality among the members. For those who wish, a 30-minute opportunity for informal gathering, sharing, and answering questions will follow the formal content.

4:30-6:00 (Pacific), 5:30-7:00 (Mountain), 6:30-8:00 (Central), 7:30-9:00 (Eastern), 3:30 (Alaska)
