Each quarter, CMS requires the submission of mandatory staffing information, known as the Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) for skilled nursing facilities. A recent audit confirmed our current, end-of-month practices for identifying staff hours in the CMS PBJ report may be missing some information. To ensure accuracy for our customers, we have implemented a more precise method for collecting the necessary data required for these monthly PBJ reports.
The main intricacies found using our current practices were as follows:
1. Terminated staff hours were not properly being accounted for
2. You must be logged into the corresponding NetHealth site when running the report
3. OP treatment minutes do not need to be reported to CMS
Our new approach will ensure we capture all the hours of current and terminated staff during the reporting period. Please see the attachment regarding the new process.
